Dominique Aquino

Dominique Aquino's videos on Vimeo show the differences between growing up in the Philippines and in Newcastle. I really like the idea of mixing video and audio together so that is something I am going to do in my narrative. I think both of these videos are really beautiful and produce a powerful narrative of how she feels whilst living in both of these places. In the Philippines, its al about happiness and enjoying little things about the place, whereas in Newcastle it is all mostly filmed in the dark.

I think the idea of putting short clips of video together is a really interesting way of getting a lot of information across to the audience. Its something I would like to do for my narrative as I feel it is an effective way of showing the audience everything they need. I like the fast pace of the images and videos which is something I would like to incorporate into my work.

'Zen and the Art of Sandcastles'

We recently watched a video called 'Zen and the Art of Sandcastles' made by Ciara Leeming and Oliver Edwards. It was made for a website called duckrabbit. The website picked two students and sent them to Western Super Mare where they had one day to find a story, and collect photographs and audio, and then another day to edit everything they had collected.

This slideshow was made up of single images with audio behind. There were two overlapping audios in the background, one was a parent and child at the beach, one was a talk with a professional sandcastle builder. both audios work together as the professional talks about building when she was a child whilst you can hear the children laughing in the background. She then starts talking about how the sandcastles, even though hers can take her hours, them being destroyed is kind of a metaphor for letting go and then there is the juxtaposing audio of the parents and the children getting excited about destroying them in the background.

I think the the idea of putting audio and images together that have a link is a really good idea and one I would like to put into my own work. Its a really interesting idea to put two contrasting audios in the background however I don't think I would be able to do this in my own work.
